Sweet Dreams Are Made Of These- What’s keeping CIO’s up at night?

 30 June 2014  blogs  Diana Krieger  4 min read

It is 2 o’clock in the morning and you are still awake. Why? It’s not because you just finished watching your country win a World Cup match in a different time zone. It’s because you are worried about your customers, the security of your networks, and the new CIO mandate to pioneer innovation instead of just being a provider of basic IT services. Are your customers able to do what they need and want to do? Are your networks secure at any given time? Are you spending enough time looking ahead to future innovations and focusing on customer-related activities? These are the worries of the CIO of 2014.

This CIO reports to the CEO instead of the CFO, spends very little time dealing with technical issues, and stays at a company for an average of about five years. This CIO either has a seat at the table or wants one and is committed to repositioning the IT function by aligning business with IT and focusing on the End User Experience.

But even the busy Business Enabler CIO needs to sleep and, more than that, you need the time to get closer to your customers so you can help improve their experience. This means you have to make the shift from the back office to the front lines and spend more time on sales and marketing, new business development, and customer service management. Once you have a better understanding of the needs of your customers, your next step will be to identify the technologies that will help your company find, win, and keep customers. For you to have the time to make this shift, you need to be able to trust that your team can keep the daily operation running smoothly and securely and, from time to time, you need to be able to see for yourself that all is well. What you and your team need is access to high-level status information that tells you in an instant about the health of your business-critical services and not just about the status of your IT infrastructure and applications.

Live Maps, our latest release of Live Maps for Microsoft System Center, bridges the information gap between your company’s IT infrastructure and business services and provides you and your team with exactly the information you need, when and where you need it. A quick glance at the Live Maps dashboard is all it takes to know the status of your company’s business-critical services from three different perspectives: the end user, the infrastructure, and the applications.

Not only do you get some peace of mind any time of day or night that the needs of your customers are being met but you also have the assurance that your team has exactly the information it needs to quickly resolve any issues. Claim back your nights and your days and use your time to become the visionary you always wanted to be.

Don’t miss our next blog: Live Maps Look on Exchange 2013. One of the most important services that employees in a company rely on, is e-mail. That is why organizations are focusing much of their effort on ensuring that email is always available. Find out how Live Maps Unity helps to simplify using the raw information from System Center along with the Exchange 2013 management pack by turning it into a simple view that can help show the state of the system and help to focus your attention on the events that require immediate attention.
