Just a month after releasing Live Maps v8.2, we have already released yet another new version, Live Maps v8.3.
We always strive to support the many requirements of our customers quickly with our Agile development process, and in this release we have added 8 more exciting and handy features to Live Maps.
We have summed up the new features into three categories:
- New Widgets – In this release, we are introducing 3 new summary dashboards widgets that will make every dashboard better.
- Brand It – You can now brand your console with stylish out-of-box color themes, or you can also use any color scheme of your choice.
- Essential Insights – Get more insight faster with features such as Homepage Search for Dashboards and Services, Historical SLA Reporting, or using the new wizard, you can create new Live Maps List and Diagram dashboards based on membership rules of existing SCOM groups.
You can take a look below at all the new features we added to the Live Maps Web Portal and Authoring Console.
Alert list widget
We already had the alerts list in a couple of dashboards, but now it is available as a widget. This makes it possible to show a list of alerts for any target or group scope in your summary dashboards.
In the configuration, the alert filter can be defined by setting object type, group scope, severity, resolution state and time span. A ‘Max Results’ setting will protect your dashboard against alert storms that could make the dashboard less responsive.
The result is an alert list that shows the same information as in all other dashboards in the Portal, but now with the data you choose.
Top N Computer Performance Widget
When we were developing the Top N Performance widget we did not find the ease of use good enough for computer objects. In SCOM the performance counter rules are not targeted to the computer class. But why should we bother the user with these facts? That’s why we created the Top N Performance widget for all computer objects, like Windows Server, Linux Servers, etc. Since we know where all those rules are targeted to, the user only needs to configure what metrics needs to be used.
Top N Advanced Performance Widget
This widget works almost the same as the Top N Computer Performance Widget. The only difference is that the user can now pick exactly the performance metric they need from any object type.
New display type for SQL Widget
We added a new ‘Display Type’ to the SQL Widget. It is now possible to show one single value. This is handy for showing a specific metric. In the example below, I show the total number of objects in SCOM. I am sure you can think of even more valuable information.
We have already decided to extend these display types even more in the near future, for example, with a bar chart or line chart.
New Color Themes
Everybody has its own color preferences, and when you are working a lot with a solution such as Live Maps, we think it is important that our customers have the ability to choose their most favorite theme. That is why we have added two new themes, dark and light. If you are really into branding the portal, and would like your company standard colors, we have made it possible to customize a theme by overriding CSS settings on the web server.
Configure your favorite theme on the settings page.
Search for dashboards and services on the home page
For both services and dashboards, we have created search boxes on the home page. This makes it easier to search for and navigate to a certain dashboard or service quickly.
Search for services.
Search for dashboards.
When you click on the magnifying glass, the header will change in to a search box, where you can type in your search string.
Show Service SLA history
Similar to the OpsMgr Console, we have made it possible for you to look up SLA data for previous periods in the Live Maps Portal. With this feature, we make it easy for you to zoom in and run analyses based on a specific timeframe. With this new feature you can now see SLA information of previous periods simply by selecting the month you want to target.
Use existing groups for new dashboards
Our Diagram, List and Interactive Map dashboards use a SCOM group to define what objects should be visible on a dashboard. This makes those dashboards state aware. Which means that you can stack dashboards on top of each other to create multidimensional dashboards.
Some of our customers already invested in creating these kind of groups or sometimes those groups are already defined in management packs. That is why we made it easy to use an existing group for a new Diagram and List dashboards.
Using the new Import Groups wizard, it is easy to use existing SCOM groups for your new dashboards.
We also added the possibility to use an existing group in the New List and Diagram dashboard wizards.
License Information in Portal
Administrators can now also see the license details in the Live Maps Portal. Till now they needed the Authoring Console for that.
We also present the amount of dashboards that are being used in the footer so that users can keep track and know when their dashboards are about to run out.
