Savision recently hosted a free webinar, featuring three of the industry’s top experts: Microsoft MVP Robert Hedblom, Savision’s Co-Founder and VP of Product Management – Dennis Rietvink, and Approved’s CEO and Solution Architect – Jonas Lenntun. During the webinar, these three experts explained how to break down the complex information within SCOM in order to present it in a business context and what steps you should take in order to become more proactive and ensure that you are giving your business services the importance they deserve.
We had a Q&A session, and would like to share some of the questions that popped up during the webinar. If you did not register for the webinar, but would still like to listen to it, you can sign up for the on-demand version, which will become available soon.
Questions during the Q&A session
1. Is there an example from an end-to-end monitoring, for example monitoring SAP from user performance to the database?
There are companies that offer a Management Pack that will monitor your SAP application stack. We don’t know how far they go from an end-user monitoring perspective (if they have something out-of-the-box within the MP, that would be great); otherwise, there are some possibilities in SCOM that allow you to do really advanced Web Application Availability and Transaction Monitoring. Or you could even fire a script that does intelligent check and reports (good or bad) back to SCOM so you can extend SCOM in any way to implement advanced end-user testing.
2. What is the additional infrastructure which is needed for Live Maps?
Live Maps is a Business Service Management solution for System Center Operations Manager. We don’t require an additional database, which means that the Live Maps Authoring Console communicates directly with the SCOM back-end, with the Management server and all the objects, all the relationships, all the dashboards, all the visuals are stored through the SCOM API in the SCOM database. They’re all supported SCOM objects. The HTML5 web console that comes with LMU can be installed in any IIS server.
3. How do we improve performance of Live Maps? Do you have recommended specs?
The performance of Live Maps starts with a good performing SCOM environment. On top of that, you can use the standard IIS performance solutions like multiple worker processes, web farms, load balancers etc. For more tips and tricks, you can check out our blog section and/or contact our Support team at email@example.com, and they will be more than happy to help you.
4. Is Cherwell in your roadmap (i.e. near future)?
Yes, Cherwell is in our roadmap for later this year. In addition, early in April we will be releasing Live Maps v8.0, which will feature an integration with BMC Remedy. You will be able to take the business services that you have created and automatically sync them with the BMC Remedy CMDB. BMC Remedy users can see at a glance which services are impacted by which incidents. Stay tuned if you would like to know more about all the new features which will be added to our upcoming release.
5. Can Live Maps monitor Oracle as a service and if yes, how?
Firstly, Oracle should be monitored by SCOM. There are companies that have Management Packs available that allow you to monitor Oracle with SCOM. Oracle by itself is more an enabler, a part of a business service, but you can definitely visualize your Oracle databases or instances with Live Maps.
6. Is the analytical engine featured in the webinar extra licensed?
Dashboards shown in the end are built on Reporting Services and SQL Server Analysis as the Analytical Engine. This is a consultancy service by our partner Approved in Sweden. It is written on top of the Service Model that was created with Live Maps . If you would like to know more about it, you can reach out to us and we will connect you with Approved.
7. What are the costs of Live Maps (per access / per server)?
Savision understands you like to have flexibility and simplicity. Therefore we offer subscription licenses. Once a customer, you can profit from many exclusive benefits with our customer loyalty program. You can visit our Pricing page to learn more, contact our team of experts at: firstname.lastname@example.org or you can request a quote and we will get back to you within 24 hours.
