Time to Evolve

The pressure to lower IT costs while increasing customer satisfaction is mounting and in this customer-centric digital age that pressure will only continue to grow. But how do you demonstrate that your IT department adds value to the business instead of being a cost center if your team doesn’t have the time to investigate disruptive technologies and find ways to improve service quality? And instead of reporting that Server XYZ is down, how much more efficient would it be to report that customers can’t pay for the items in their shopping cart right now because Server XYZ is down?

Map IT Components to Business Services

The first step to answer these questions is to better understand the dependencies between your company’s business services and the underlying IT infrastructure and applications. With the Service Creation wizard of Live Maps you can define a business service and select all infrastructure components and applications that provide the underlying support. You and all other stakeholders in the company can view the health of all defined business-critical services in real-time on the Service Dashboard.

From the Services Dashboard and Beyond

The Service Dashboard, which is generated automatically, gives an instant overview of the status of your company’s business-critical services from three perspectives: the end users, the infrastructure, and the applications. In a few clicks you will have enough information to determine the impact and priority of a disruption and assign it to the right team. The result: faster root cause analyses, maximized service availability and delivery, faster resolution times, and more time to explore new technologies.

Cut through the Noise

The Operations Manager component of Microsoft System Center generates numerous noisy, low-level alerts. With Live Maps you can focus on high priority alerts by pushing low priority alerts to the background. When the Service Dashboard indicates a service problem, one click on the relevant service name takes you to the Service Map. The Service Map gives a high-level overview of the status of the components that make up the service as well as the current and historical service level performance. From there, you can go to more detailed component maps.

All Eyes on Deck

Not only are our dashboards and maps intuitive, customizable or ready for use out of the box, they also break down the language barrier between IT and business. Is the business service functioning properly? Can customers pay for the items in their shopping carts? At any time, anyone with access to Live Maps can answer that question: from the service owner to the service desk employee and the CIO. Let us help your company break down its data silos and foster better relationships between IT and business.
